Carla is the Associate Director of News and Strategic Content for Pomona College. Her main role revolves around story writing for the college’s website, highlighting events and people that make the Pomona experience special. Carla also manages all of the official social media outlets for the college.

>> My name is Carla Guerrero and I work in communications currently for Pomona College. And before that I did communications work for a couple different non-profits. So, at Pomona College I do a lot of story writing for the website. So, a lot of promotional material. A lot of really stories -- a lot of stories about what makes the college so special and why students should come here. So, I interview students and faculty about different projects they're doing and write it like you would a feature for a newspaper. And then depending on the story I also do -- we pitch it to local media. And I also do the social media, the official accounts for Pomona College. So, I manage the Facebook, the Instagram, the Twitter, kind of monitor the chatter out there for Pomona College. So, usually I have anywhere from two to five stories I'm working on and in different stages. So, just because of the nature of the news that we work with, we'll get something the same day, we have to turn it around that same day or the next day. Some stories have a little bit more lead time so I might have a few weeks of setting up more in-depth interviews and getting more of a -- a good interview out of a student. Sometimes they're just fast news like someone won a scholarship or a professor won a grant award and we just have to turn in a few paragraphs for the new section on the website. So, my job allows me to talk to a variety of different people who are very passionate about their subjects and what they're working on. So, it's always fun to learn about a different subject and I have to almost become a mini-expert in a short amount of time to be able to write intelligibly about what they're doing.
